Students tour the Colorado Mesa University Forensic Investigation Research Station (CMU-FIRS) as part of the Forensic Criminology and Anatomy and Physiology course objectives. FIRS is an outdoor research facility focused on the impact of the Western Slope’s unique environment on human decomposition. Students worked with CMU staff to observe impacts of disease, aging, injury, and environmental conditions on skeletal remains. Since FIRS is a closed research facility out of respect for donors and maintaining the integrity of the research, this educational opportunity was made possible by the generous agreement of the CMU-FIRS staff for supporting academic exploration.
